Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 17, 2026

WeatherMax+ is a weather app built by Chris Williams. This policy explains what data the app and website collect, how it's used, and your rights. We collect the minimum data needed to provide weather forecasts and severe-weather alerts, and we don't sell your data.

Data we collect

  • Location (latitude and longitude) — used only in-memory to fetch weather for your chosen area. We do not store your location history. You may enter locations manually or grant device location permission for "near-me" weather.
  • Saved locations — stored locally on your device. If you enable severe-weather push notifications, the list is sent to our server so we can match alerts against the areas you care about.
  • Push notification token — if you enable severe alerts, your device sends us an anonymous token (via Apple's push service) so we can deliver notifications. Disabling alerts removes the token from our server.
  • IP address — briefly used to estimate your location when you first open the app without an explicit search. Not retained after the request completes.
  • Request logs — standard server logs (URL, status, timestamp) kept up to 30 days for operational monitoring. No personal identifiers are logged.

Data we don't collect

  • Account information — the app has no accounts or sign-in.
  • Advertising identifiers. No ads, no tracking SDKs.
  • Contacts, photos, or any device data beyond location.

Third-party services

To provide weather data, the app sends your latitude and longitude to these providers:

  • Apple WeatherKit — primary forecast and current conditions.
  • National Weather Service (weather.gov) — official US weather alerts and forecasts.
  • Open-Meteo — air quality and pollen data.
  • Iowa Environmental Mesonet — radar tiles (NOAA NEXRAD).
  • OpenStreetMap / Nominatim — location name lookup.
  • Apple Push Notification service — delivers severe-weather alerts to your device.

Each provider has its own privacy practices. We only send them the coordinates needed to answer a request — no other data about you.

Children's privacy

WeatherMax+ is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your rights

You can:

  • Disable push notifications at any time in the app — this removes your device token from our server.
  • Revoke location permission in iOS Settings.
  • Delete the app to remove all saved data from your device.
  • Email us to request any data associated with a push token be deleted.

If you live in California (CCPA) or the European Economic Area (GDPR), you have additional rights including access, correction, and deletion. We comply with those requests.

Data security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS. Push tokens and location lists are stored on a server under our control and not shared with third parties beyond those listed above.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be noted in the app.
